The accused person was arrested by the police on 9 November 2018 at Mame motel in Mzimba district.
He was found in possession of 4 pieces of ivory weighing 11kgs valued at MK 9,075,000.00. The accused was charged with being found in possession of specimens of endangered species (African Elephant) contrary to section 86 (1) National Parks and Wildlife Act 2017. The ivory was taken to DNPW for identification and verification, the results came back positive.
A statement under caution was taken from the accused, and he was formally charged. He denied the charge.
